The Degree Petition page in DPRS consists of the degree petition, links to required surveys, and site to upload a pdf of your dissertation. No paper submission is required. These deadlines have been established to allow sufficient time for readers to make careful evaluations and for departments to review those evaluations and make their recommendations to the Graduate School. No extensions of the deadlines will be granted. Dissertations submitted after the deadlines will be considered during the following term.

You've completed all of your department's courses and requirements, and you've passed your qualifying exams. Now, you are ready for the culmination of your work as a doctoral student: the dissertation. Creating an original piece of scholarly work is exciting, fulfilling, and occasionally nerve wracking. Remember that your adviser, dissertation committee, and others in your department or program can help you with information and guidance specific to completing a dissertation in your field. As you near completion, review the University Registrar's information on Dissertation Progress and Submission. Additionally, review the items below as you prepare to submit.
Every program administers an intensive examination before admitting a graduate student to candidacy for the Ph. You might take it alone or with other students in your cohort. For information specific to your program of study, go to your specific program's policy.
Important elements of the history program are summarized here, but students should refer to the Programs and Policy guide to check any technical requirements. Each subfield of History has different language proficiency requirements. Students are strongly encouraged to complete their comprehensive exams by the end of the fifth semester and are required to be completed by the end of the sixth semester. Some faculty prefer students to complete the prospectus in the fifth semester and take exams in the sixth semester; please consult your advisor.
