Graffiti artwork has always been something people disregard. People pass it by on the walls of alleyways, on bridges, on train cars, and never pay much attention. The world looks at graffiti as something rebellious teens do to get an adrenaline rush, or break the rules. The artist Banksy, shows that graffiti can be so much more than just spray paint on a wall: it can send a message. Banksy has done graffiti art all over the walls of England, each one sending a different message and standing out to the viewer for its modern style. The image Banksy has created is located in a dark alleyway, or run down part of town.
Though Banksys true identity is unknown, his work is internationally recognized. He has painted from Bethlehem to L. From his humble beginnings as a free hand artist tagging the streets of Bristol, Banksy has graduated from stenciling the streets and has begun showing his work in warehouses all over the world. His popularity increased after his art caught the eyes of celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Christina Aguilera, and his pieces frequently sell for six or seven figures. Despite his newfound fame, Banksy continues painting the streets with the same critical imagery that first caught the attention of the public, and he shows no signs of stopping. Instead, Banksy's work continues to evolve into louder social commentary as his career continues.
At first glance the work appears to be a photograph of a worker cleaning graffiti from a wall on a public street. Then on closer inspection one realises that the man with the pressure cleaner is actually part of the work. The man appears to be standing in front of the picture behind due to the difference in styles used to create him and the picture behind. He is more detailed and precise, though his features are intentionally obscured by the artist, then the remainder of the piece.
Heightened security was then placed in subways and around public property. Around this time, one of the most famous graffiti artists became notorious for his controversial works of art; his street name was Banksy and this is was all he was called by because still to this today his name is unknown. However, more recently the police are becoming more understanding of the art, shown in a newspaper…. For others, graffiti is a form of art due to its expressive nature regardless of where it is placed.
