Some overarching factors include poverty in many rural areas, limited resources, and structural barriers that pose challenges to accessing services. Often, many of these factors intersect, amplifying the barriers to treatment and prevention. The study was a school-based intervention conducted in three middle schools and two high schools in Wuhan, China, which included boys and girls, with ages from 11 to 18 years old. Chi-square test was used to compare differences before and after the intervention. A systematic and long-term intervention among secondary school students must be conducted for the prevention of HIV. This literature review analyzed 36 sources with a specific focus on the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC , whose critically low socioeconomic status and education rate have resulted in a drastically high HIV rates. Relationships between HIV testing and treatment and barriers to care were explored.
